Let's Talk About It...

What happened in Atlanta was a tragedy and awful moment, and what is happening around the country to Asian people is terrifying, but I don’t have to tell you that. I don’t have to tell you that the world still has a lot of work to do.

My family didn’t talk about politics with me when I was growing up. I was told to be careful out there. That was it. Just be careful. Don’t put yourself in bad situations. But what if bad situations find you? Every situation is different.

No one wants to hear a sad story and I’m not here to tell you one. I’m here to look to the future. Help us teach our kids what racism is. It is never too early. They need to know what is right and what is wrong. They need to learn how to think for themselves. We’ve talked to Taylor about it. He’s six. We don’t turn off the news when we know the kids are listening while they are wistfully playing and coloring. After the news is over, we sit down at dinner and talk about it. Ask if they have any questions. One of us will always ask privately after to see if he does have questions.

Each one of you has a kid, a grandchild, a niece or nephew, or someone you mentor. This next generation is resilient and will know more than we did growing up. Let’s cheer them on. Let’s support them in every way we can. They are the future and they will change everything.

Today, I give you Dad’s Chicken Noodle Soup in an Instant Pot. A little soup to heal. Because I’m still just a spring chicken over here.

Dear Diary,

Potty training is going well. I’m still cleaning diaper poop in the morning and after naptime on the weekends. E only had one accident at school and it was on the first day. Clean clothes for the rest of the week. Well, at least until she peed on her dress while sitting on the potty. Oops.

Taylor started in-person kindergarten. Whoa.

Thanks for listening,

Don't Miss a Beat.

Chill music we are listening to at the dinner table. I’m obsessed with Haim right now. Anyone else?
